Willow Clark
Humanitarian of the Year - 2014 / Teacher of the Year - 2010
My Art classroom is busy and filled with meaningful content that actively moves students forward as young artist. Differentiated instruction plays out organically. The goal for all my students is the same: Growth. Class time and assignments are structured to provide progressive paths towards personal mastery and artistic confidence.

Course Structures and Organization
Simple structures and daily routines help facilitate a safe and creative space for my students.
Daily Class Time Routine:
- Drawing Warm Ups
- Teach Time
- Studio
- Clean Up
- Good Things
- Dismissal
Table Colors and Rotations:
Students are organized in groups by their assigned table color and we use this to help in many areas such as leader rotations, seat assignments, passing out / collecting student work, getting supplies and for dismissal.
Class Period Files:
These hold things like folders and sketchbooks that we need on a daily basis.
Inspiration Board:
The inspiration board helps direct students visually toward our end product with examples and of our design process that helps break down the assignment into manageable milestones. It also provides inspiration for differentiation and alternative routes to the same destination. Student work is regularly posted on or near the board throughout the design phases for added inspiration and idea development.
Art Tickets:
A reward based ticket system where students earn tickets for doing their daily leader duties, making positive choices or class contributions. Tickets are collected weekly by class period in ziplock bags on the wall and on Friday's we have our prize drawing. It's a great system that fosters positive student-teacher relationships and healthy behaviors.
Level Based Discipline Documentation:
Most schools have a campus wide discipline program which I adopt in my class room. Many are based on levels with progressively larger consequences. I have found that a level system works with consistency and dignity. I use this as part of setting healthy bounties within my class room. I am a very pleasant and fair teacher. I hold students unanimously to a high standard of behavior. I am a firm believer in modeling the behavior and treatment I would like to receive.
